  1. Aloha this is Phil,
I very much look forward to meeting you all and participating in helping to make this venture a great success. I have been living in Hawaii now 8 years and spent the last 3 years gearing up for this trip.

I kept running into all these interesting people in Hawaii who did things like build their own sailboats and then sailed them to Hawaii, or traveled the remote parts of the world you only read about in National Geographic.

Eventually I said why not ME? All I could show from my experiences were a few houses, a decent German car, the usual trips to Europe, and a few far east capitals.

So after preparing by doing a trial sail from Hawaii to Canada on a small boat to see if I had no problems, saving up some $, here I come.

I'm probably going to be one of the older crew members on this trip. However, last summer I was on the outrigger canoe team doing open ocean racing with a bunch of guys in top form. I kept up.

This week I awoke with a terrible cramp in my stomach that I thought was from moving 200 lb rocks around the day before. I shook it off and went 35 miles to the gym and weight lifted anyway. Then to the office. At 2:00 I thought I better have a rest before piano practice, then played some Chopin and Beethoven, after that I drove 35 miles home. Decided the pain was a little too much and finally finally drove myself back the 35 miles to have my appendix removed.

So on the day of my appendicitis, I drove a over 100 miles, worked out, went to the office, and played the piano.

I think I should be cut of good enough cloth for a sailing trip. Just remember, if I'm finally willing to admit I'm in pain, it probably means something major is going on.

Possible seminars and lessons I can offer on board include:

    Piano,
    Recognition/Treatment of Tropical Skin Conditions,
    Food Prep in Tropical Environments,
    Therapeutic Massage,
    Weight Training

  2. Hi Phil and fellow crew members!!! Thanks Yang for the Blog!! Randy and I are dying of excitement and simply cannot wait to meet all of you!!
Phil... I want to say THANK GOD you had your appendix episode BEFORE the trip!!! My training as an EMT does not involve appendectomies with a butter knife!! Delivering babies and applying tourniquets would be the extent!!!! ps. I can relate...my appendix were removed after they exploded!!!! I'll write more later!!!!

  4. Hello folks,
Good to communicate with you here. Sorry we have not updated the blog. We have been busy with the creation of a new website and other preparations for the trip. Besides, the Internet connection we have on board right now is very slow, which makes it very time consuming to do an do anything on line, especially when uploading pictures. It took Clemens a whole day to upload the pictures in the Picasa album. But we will try to update the blog regularly...
